The Centre regularly organises conferences, workshops and seminars. These bring together key government decision-makers, NGOs, academics, practitioners, consultants, and other stakeholders in the area of forced migration from East Africa and the rest of the world. The workshops address variety of issues related to human rights, forced migration and other related but topical issues. An example is a workshop that was held in 1999, on the need of drawing a harmonized regional policy on refugee as set out in the Treaty for the Establishment of the East African Community 1999 The main themes of the workshop were:

  • Legal Framework
  • Refugee Policy Framework
  • Refugee Management and East African Co-operation.
  • Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs


In early November 2000, CSFM in conjunction with the Mwalimu Nyerere Foundation co-hosted the Regional Conference on Peace and Security at the White Sands Hotel, officially opened by Hon. Joseph Sinde Warioba. As an active member of the International Association for the Study of Forced Migration (IASFM), CSFM actively participates in the IRAP Conferences organized by IASFM biennially. Recently, the CSFM Coordinator, Dr. Khoti Kamanga and Prof. Bonaventure Rutinwa (a CSFM member) participated in the 7th IRAP conference in Johannesburg. IRAP conferences provides an interdisciplinary for a for intellectual exchange and communication among academic researchers in forced migration, refugee professionals and policy makers, and thereby stimulating debates on research priorities and policy issues. It is also a unique opportunity for networking.

Advocacy

Slowly but steadily refugees approaches CSFM to seek both legal and humanitarian aid. Beneficiaries include: Anzuruni Milunga (DRC), Nshimiye Kabongo (DRC), and Tuzolana Nsambu Augustin ( DRC)
